can a sata 2 hard drive be replaced by a sata 3 hard drive in a computer ?

i have a Dell XPS 420 with a Dell 500 gig sata 2 hard drive that is going out, i can not find a sata 2 hard drive to replace it, will a sata 500 gig sata 3 7200rpms, 64 cache , work as a replacement internal hard drive ?

Yes, you can install a SATA3 device vice a SATA2 device. Just keep in mind that unless the SATA controller is a SATA3 port, then it will still operate at SATA2 speeds.

Better yet, make sure MB's SATA sets @ AHCI in the BIOS instead of IDE/Legacy/Compativle mode
