A week ago i had made a thread about searching for a 24" IPS monitor to replace my tn panel that i'm not particularly impressed with (VG248QE), but now im more enticed to go 3 inches bigger and have the huge resolution bump. The asus is a great monitor in its own right with a 144hz refresh rate and 1ms, but the colors just seem bland and viewing angles poor which is whats usually expected with a tn panel. Now for me i believe its time for a change both in resolution and display technology.

My eyes have not seen anything higher than 1080p and although its the standard for just about everything its not the case with pc gaming especially when i decide to spend upwards of $500 for a graphics card only to play at a measly 1920x1080 resolution.

I realize with an IPS display i would be limited to 60hz which before i saw what 120+hz looked like i was content. Still even if i was to go back i would quickly adjust to it and wouldn't care so much that i was back at 60hz, and to be honest i dont expect to push too far past 60 frames on newer games at max settings with the top of the line single gpu and im not an xfire or sli type of guy either.

What i'm leading up to though is the overclockable monitors most notably Overlord and korean brands. I would like to know if its worth shelling out an extra $100-200 for a monitor just to OC it and get a smoother picture or if i should just buy a crossover for $300-400 on ebay and call it a day. I know the amount of hz you can OC to is varied and some have better luck than others, but my other concern is with overclocking there is always room for potential issues of stability and the life of the product and with monitors i guess the effect it could have on the picture itself.

The way i see it is newer games with all their bells and whistles i wont really be taking advantage of a higher refresh rate since i wont have the framerate for it, but older games or easier titles for the pc to crunch would in fact make use of the higher refresh rate such as CS:GO which i do play fairly often and it would be nice to still have it feel silky smooth to some extent like i currently do with the asus.

TLDR: Get a OCable monitor for $100-200 more or save the money for something else and nab a perfect pixel crossover without OCing capabilities

I would prefer a branded monitor without the capabilities of OC. BTW what is your max budget for 27" monitor ? If you are happy with 1080p (27") then I would like to suggest you this one :

if you do go korean the xstar(which i have) or crossovers are good overclockers, I run mine at 96hz, you can achieve 120hz with some tweaking. i paid less than 300 for mine with no fees and it looks awsome, even better than my good samsung monitor
