hello everyone, I have and external hard drive(Western Digital My Passport 1TB USB 3.0). the read speed is very low, i am trying to copy some elements from the disk but can't do it at that speed.
is has 3 years old.
I spent 25 hrs scanning it with HDD Regenerator but it didn't throw any bad sectors.
any idea of what is happening?
what can i do?

thanks in advance,

If you do end up benchmarking your drive to test the speed, here is what I got with a known good version of the exact same drive (Western Digital My Passport 1TB USB 3.0). I used CrystalDiskMark 3.03.

Sequential Read: 88.70 MB/s
Sequential Write: 86.48 MB/s
512K Read: 26.45 MB/s
512K Write: 33.79 MB/s
4K Read: 0.285 MB/s
4K Write: 0.708 MB/s
4K QD32 Read: 0.410 MB/s
4k QD32 Write: 0.686 MB/s

I have done a lot of testing of hard drives at my work, and I tend to use Seagate's Seatools to test all the drives. I usually run the SMART test (which is very short) and the 'long generic' test (which can take 2-3 hours). I have used HDD Regenerator before, but I am not a fan because of how long it takes (possibly multiple days), and the free version that I had access to was really old and so I wasn't sure how reliable it was on new drives.

Basically, I guess I'm saying that I've seen different tests give different results, and I personally recommend trying Seatools.

Having said all that, it is possible that the drive is fine and that it is actually just not as fast as you think it should be. Don't expect to to reach full USB 3.0 speeds. No hard drive will get even close to that. Try benchmarking your drive with something like CrystalDiskMark and posting the speeds here. I have one of the exact same drives, so I will post my speeds too so they can be compared.
