Hi,

I recently bought a second GTX 660 (I have now both a Asus and a Zotac. SLI is not working so that's out of the question). With either cards, I have awful FPSs;

Assassin's Creed Black Flag, LOWEST/OFF 12FPS
Splinter Cell Blacklist unable to play on ULTRA when I should
Hitman Absolution unable to play AT ALL when I should run it on ULTRA 50FPS
Rising Storm/Red Orchestra 2 supposed to play ULTRA 60fps, not doing that at all
Battlefield 4 Medium 40fps... is that normal ?
Borderlands 2 NO FPS AT ALL
And the list goes on...

Specs;
CPU: AMD Phenom ii X6 1090T Black Edition 6 cores @3.2ghz
Mobo: Asus M4a89GTD Pro/USB3
PSU: 700w
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaw 8gb @1600mhz
GPUs: Zotac GTX 660 and Asus GTX 660 DirectCUii

Thanks !

I did buy a second for SLI to use with HyperSLI but that didn't work. But yes, even with 1 card I get crap. I just tried bumping my CPU to 4.1Ghz and running benchmarks;

Hitman Absolution, at either Very Low or Ultra presets; barely 35FPS on Benchmark level.
Same goes for every other game. What the hell? May I remind you I am running a fairly decent 1-GPU setup. I should be getting more than 35fps on very low for Hitman Absolution, right ? People are running it Ultra 60fps with the same goddang card!

What you may not know is I've been spending all week now trying to sort this out, to no avail...

Anyone ?

I never thought I'd say that, but if that doesn't work out, I'm going back to... co...*vomits*...Co...Consoles...

What resolution are you playing at? did you ever mess with the nvidia control panel to set up a super sample resolution?

Well your mobo doesn't support SLI, only crossfire so there's your problem for that.

Since both cards perform badly I doubt it's a gpu issue. Things to try from here. Mobo bios update. Uninstall the games, then uninstall the driver, restart the computer, reinstall the drivers, restart, then reinstall the games.
Graphics card bios update might also help.

I play at 1920x1080. I know my board doesn't support it but that's what HyperSLI is for. Nevertheless, thank you very much for your answer, and will try all of those (again), I might be lucky. There is one thing tho, I didn't know GPUs had BIOS, how do you update those?

Also, my board's BIOS is up to date and it's a fairly old model so they won't be releasing a new BIOS any time soon. Lastly, I tried all of the above, and I might just do a fresh windows install and try those again. In what order should I install what driver? I am quite good when it comes to computers, but I might be missing something obvious, don't hesitate to detail everything like I'm a complete noob.

Thank you very very much!

Well if you want to start with a fresh windows update, do that first. Then start with the drivers for the card followed by the games.

As for the gpu bios flash, don't worry about that, it is most likely not going to help, we'll save that as a last resort.

Come to think of it, I never reinstalled my games. Thank you, I'll try a complete format and reinstall tonight or tomorrow. So I'll install Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit, then what driver? I should update the chipset driver first, right ? And then my Nvidia drivers and my games? I was wondering if some BIOS settings or particular switch or slots on my mobo I might have messed with, could that affect game performance that much?

noone is running hitman absolution on ultra at constant 60 fps 1080p on a gtx660.

Alright, everything is formated, Windows 8.1 64bit freshly installed with nothing else than Chipset Drivers, Nvidia Drivers, Steam and Hitman Absolution for testing purposes. I'll test everything tomorrow but there's no reason it wouldn't work... I'll use Nvidia GeForce Experience's recommended graphic settings.

EDIT: Nope, absolutely no performance gain. Something bothers me tho, with whatever settings I run the Hitman Absolution Benchmark, be it ULTRA or LOW preset, it's always the same FPS... Starts with 38fps when you exit the room, drops to 28, then back to 35 and to 40 then it ends. With ANY settings, same thing... How weird. Didn't try Red Orchestra 2, Splinter Cell Blacklist or Assassin's Creed Blackflag yet, but I suspect results will be the same...

I'm getting tired of this...

reeks of a cpu bottleneck. dropping graphical settings removes load from the gpu, and clearly that is doing nothing so your cpu is holding you back.

have a read of that. seems the game is hard to get great fps without a good intel cpu or overclocked amd 8 core.
you should see a good increase if you oc your current cpu though.

Okay thanks, but I overclocked to 4.1ghz and no increase whatsover. What would you guys say would be a really worthwile AMD CPU upgrade only for gaming? I know intel rules but I don't wanna change my motherboard. If ever there's a AMD CPU that would kill games compared to mine then yeah sure I'll think about it.
