New Asus notebook. Suddenly (think I or the cat hit something) several of the keys aren't providing what they should. Ex "p" produces an "*". ";" produces a "-"

What did I do and how do I undo it. Never realized how important the letter P is until now. :0

Well, if you're under warranty, it's best to send it in to Asus. The keyboard may need replaced if there's a problem with the key matrix or cable. If you are not under warranty, then you can attempt to at least reseat the keyboard cable and hope it's only a bad connection, though I doubt that's it.
Not to sound condescending of course: Did you spill anything on it? This sounds like the key mapping is off. We've seen it before, and consequently almost always find liquid marks somewhere on the keyboard (and sometimes the main board).

If it's hardware fault, Asus will have to replace the keyboard for you per RMA.

you haven't done anything, just press the numlock key again, coz in laptops without num keys, the num keys are provided in the area where the key 'p' lies.... and if you ve switched the numlock function. the key p will hit * which can be seen printed in the same key. so just switch off the numlock function. :bounce:
