Hey guys! I have a Phenom II x4 965. Playing BF4 I can feel it throttling my EVGA 660. And in Beam NG I can only get 15-20 FPS on some maps (Crazy CPU intensive game). Now I don't plan on getting a processor for a while, but what do you guys think is better? I'll be using it mainly for gaming, that's what I want it to be the best in. I'll also do a little bit of video editing, but don't care if one's better then the other in video editing. The other thing I care about, is future-proof. I heard the 8350 is more future proof because of its 8 cores, but it seems like the 3570K has more performance, what would you guys go with? I have a Asrock 970 Extreme 3.0 board now that I would prob. stick with if I upgraded to teh AMD processor is it a good enough board for that processor?

Solution
The only differences from the images that I can see are the two badges on the heat sinks "XFastLAN" and "ASROCK", suggesting yours is R1.0.
The R2.0 board will have this written on the board somewhere, the images are high enough resolution for me to find it.
I have called the earlier board R1.0, but AsRock doesn't label it with that on the website so it may just be "970 Extreme3" and "970 Extreme3 R2.0".
The fact that they have excluded this one CPU from the support list makes me think that it does not work.
FX-8350 is not listed in the CPU support list for this motherboard.
Other FX series CPUs are there, so that is a concern:

Core i5 3570K is better for games, significantly in some games and others are much closer.
This mostly depends on how well the game can make use of the 8 available cores, as each of the Intel cores is much more efficient than each AMD core.

If you don't intend to overclock, just get the Core i5 3570 rather than the K model.
If you want to stick with your current motherboard, you could get an FX series CPU but be warned that the FX-8350 may not be supported.

I have an AMD 8350 and love it. I too do video editing, gaming and image editing. So far it's suited my needs perfectly. You can look at it this way, your board is relatively new-ish so you can just upgrade the processor while keeping everything intact. If you upgrade to a 3570 you obviously need to replace the board. That being said, the 8350 is much better at multi-threaded programs and games and not as good in single threaded performance as 3570 - but the margin isn't very large. Also, more programs, applications and games are becoming multi-threaded.

Lastly, $8350 is $30 cheaper

As noted in the article listed by ezskills, single core performance of the Core i5 3570K is about 44% better.
This gives a significant advantage in any application utilizing 4 cores or less.
The majority of games run much better on the Core i5, although the performance of the FX-8350 is not likely to be a problem either.
The Core i5 3570 (non-K version) is the same price as the FX-8350.
The FX-8350 is not in the CPU support list for his motherboard.

The motherboard DOES support the 8350:

Thanks guys! I'm still debating it. I'll have to see if anyone has used it with my mobo. I don't think it's a very good mobo, I think it basically one that works for gaming but is on the low-end I believe I only paid $70-90 for it. Anyway if it does work i think I'll go that route because it's much cheaper if I don't have to get a motherboard. Will future intel processors be LGA 1150 or haswell? Or a whole a new socket? What about AMD? I just ask because it'd be nice if one kept the same socket for future processors so if I wanted I could just change the CPU. But it'll be paired with one EVGA 660 so I imagine the 8350 will be my choice (IF my mobo supports it I'll research that) and then I'll be happy for a while I don't need the max performance, i's just my Phenom II x4 only gets like 25-40FPS on BF4 and Beam NG on a heavily designed map only gets like 15-20

That is the FX-8300, which is a different CPU with a different clock rate and different TDP.

If you can get a different CPU for your motherboard, this will be the cheapest option.
Consider the FX-6350. This is in the CPU support list and just as fast as the FX-8350 when using 6 cores or less.

The Intel Core i5 3570K is an Ivy Bridge CPU, suitable for a socket 1155 motherboard.
Haswell CPUs like the core i5 4670K use a socket 1150 motherboard.
The next generation (Broadwell) may use socket 1150 as well, but unlikely for generations after this.

AMD does tend to use the same socket for longer.
The AM3+ socket you are using has been around for a while.
Reports around at the moment suggest that AMD may not be planning to release any more CPUs for this socket, instead moving to socket FM2+.

Each generation of motherboard has new connectivity support anyway (e.g. new generations of PCI-E, SATA and USB). Both Intel and AMD will also be moving to DDR-4 eventually. If you buy a motherboard today, I would expect to replace it with your next CPU upgrade.

I might wait then until the new AMD CPU's are released. I only built the computer a year ago, only just finished buying all the parts (Had it running on a super old monitor and HDD). But what do you guys mean there's no support for the FX8350 for my board? The product code on Newegg for the FX8350 is nearly the same as the one listed for the board:

Newegg FX8350: FD8350FRHKBOX
Asrock 970 Extreme 3 R2.0: FD8350FRW8KHK

(All Asrock specs):
AM3+* FX FD8350FRW8KHK 125W Piledriver 4000MHz 2200MHz 2MBx4 8MB C0 All
- Does it matter what comes after the FR? On the Asrock website it has the same specs 125w, 4.0ghz, same caches. Is this the same CPU or is something different I'm missing?

Newegg FX8350: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113284

Asrock 970 Extreme R2.0: http://www.asrock.com/MB/overview.us.asp?cat=CPU&Model=970%20Extreme3%20R2.0

You're right, the FX-8350 is supported by the R2.0 board.
The page I found earlier is for R1.0.

It seems I just have the normal one, mine has the X-fast lan badge on it. So it doesn't list the FX 8350. It looks like it lists the FX8300. I'll try emailing them to see if it will work with a FX8350, or why it might not. Otherwise is the 8300 that different? Again I'll wait for the new processors to come out before buying.
