I plan on upgrading my old rig which consists of:

MoBo: ECS MCP61M-M3
CPU: AMD Athlon II X3 450
GPU: nVidia Geforce GT440
HDD: WD Green 1TB
RAM: Kingston KVRD3 4GBx2
PSU: 600W (probably not a true power since brand/manufacturer is not known)
Case: prefer/able to fit in micro-ATX

I wish to upgrade them monthly when I got my pay. Which should I upgrade first? I think its the CPU first right? Kindly recommend me a list(s) of components compatible for my plan. TQ

I searched your motherboard. It uses an AM3 socket, but the Athlons on the market right now are all FM2. Hopefully I'm looking at the right Mobo

This one? Assuming that's right, here is what I would do:

1) Buy This CPU and put it in your current MoBo.

2) Buy This MoBo and move the Phenom II over to it. As well as everything else.

3) Buy this PSU and install it.

4) Buy this GPU and install it.

5) Get this memory

6) And finally, move everything over to This case

The Hard Drive is a bit of an issue. You can't just move a HDD over to a new Mobo because the drivers are different and OEM OS's are restricted to one MoBo. You have to back up your data and reinstall the operating system. If...

EDIT: Oh sorry, I take that back. You have an issue here. Your MoBo doesn't support modern AMD CPUs. So, if you want to use it for work while upgrading it, you'll have to buy a new MoBo and CPU at the same time. You can just buy a new Athlon, but there wouldn't be much point.

I would buy a new MoBo and CPU, and plug in the old parts. Then you can get new parts later and still have a working PC.

Honestly, it would be so much easier to just save up money and buy all the parts at once. Either way, if you give me your budget, I can help you out.

Emm, i actually have another rig which is better than that (asrock fm2a88x ex6+/a10-5800k/kingston hyperX blu 4gbx2).
But i sometimes need to use the old one when my wife using the fm2.. and i just could not stand the speed of the old rig, its too slow. Is it really no point on buying another athlon? Then upgrade with new mobo which suit the new athlon?

You have to back up your data and reinstall the operating system. If you buy a new one (Found Here) you'll have to do the same thing. You will have to buy the HDD and new MoBo at the same time. When you put the Phenom in the Mobo, along with everything else, install Windows 7 and you're golden.

You could avoid this by sticking to the MoBo you have now. The parts I selected will still work, but not as well as in the new MoBo.

I'm assuming your disc drive is fine. If so, just keep it.

Do you mean too much money? If I was on a budget, I'd just buy a new CPU, MoBo, and GPU. The memory, PSU, and HDD may be a bit outdated, but they're fine.

Neither the MoBo or CPU I suggested have integrated graphics, so you'll need a GPU. If you're not a gamer, graphics designer, etc, I can certainly recommend a cheaper (but adequate) CPU and GPU.

For the mean time I will use the old GPU (GT440). It's suitable with the suggested CPU + MoBo right? For future upgrade, what GPU you recommend me to get? The one cheaper but better than 440, probably below $100
