Alright. So the story is basically this. I was searching for something and in the midst of all of it, I eneded up stepping on some random keys on my sister's keyboard. When I went to look at the laptop it self, everything seem to be intact save for some strange black screen that told me I neede to "Insert or boot a new device". I was wondering if there is -any- possible known ways to fix this? I'm assuming her laptop is old, since the zero method hasn't given me the option to factory restore. If there is any information you have on factory restoring without me needing to dip into my funds, please inform me as I've been tinkering with this thing for over four hours total with no luck. If there is a cheap way to make a recovery disk, or buy one somewhere that'll help as well. Thank you in advance.

Solution
try going into the bios first and reset it to factory defaults and save and exit and reboot see if the unit boots fine. in the bios check that the hard drive is found. if it is found try using a hirem boot cd to see if you can see her data on the drive. (mini windows xp boot on the disk. ). if the hard drive not showing up then you can restore the unit. if it is showing up but the restore partion is gone or damaged look on ebay see if someone placed a restore cd set for sale. most vendors for small fee will send your a new set.
