I custom built my pc amd I have everything plugged in right and it wouldn't power up? I did do one thing though that I have a question about. When I was connecting power to the 4 pin cpu slot I put the connector in backwards and kind of forced it in but realized that it was in wrong and I put it in the right way and it went in easy. Would that have hurt anything? Please help me

Is there an on/off switch on the MoBo? No kidding, I once made this mistake. I freaked out for like 20 minutes until I realized I had turned it off before installing it in the case.

How would you make it go in backwards? The connectors are made so you can't put it in backwards and damage your motherboard by having incorrect connections

Now there are a few things to check, but firstly can you tell me if when you press the on button does any of the status (power button, reset, clear CMOS) light up?

Like you know how there are two squares on the 4 pin connector and then the squares with cut off edges? I got the squares lined up but the cut off squares went the wrong way in there own hole. And there aren't any LEDs lighting up. My mobo is msi a88x e45

Ok I think I understand what you mean, as long as you didn't switch it on with it in like that your fine.

So nothing lights up? So when you press the on button nothing happens? Did you check to make sure that the 24 pin atx connector was properly plugged in?

Yes but when I did install the front panel cables I left out the audio usb and the AC-97 bc I didn't think I needed them. Do I?

If that doesn't work and you have plugged in all the status buttons and lights then the only thing I can think of is that your psu is faulty, this happened to me and I experienced the same problems as you

The power button is a single connector, it goes in the first pin on every motherboard I've ever worked with. It's possible the hardest thing to screw up... Is there buttons on your motherboard? (Bottom right) if there is and they do not work either, then the psu is nearly certainly the problem, did you install the CPU correctly? Make sure to be careful to put it in straight down, remember the if you don't instal the CPU correctly nothing will work
