I'm looking ahead to upgrades for my system and have a couple upgrades in mind.

My current system is:
FX 6300 - OC'd on multiplier only to 4.1Ghz
Hyper 212 EVO on push \ pull
Asus M5A97 R2.0
8 Gb (2x4) GSkill Ripjaws 1600 cl8
1 120 Gb SSD
2 7200 rpm HDD's
GTX 650 Ti Boost SC edition
SeaSonic S12II 620W PSU
NZXT source 210 case
5 case fans
a 22 and 23" monitor

I'm looking to get an FX 8320 or 8350, and would only OC to around 4.2 Ghz. So I'm wondering if the mobo would support that? Or should I upgrade that b4 the CPU? - maybe to a 990 chipset like the Asus M5A99 series - EVO R2 or PRO R2. Or other?

With the setup right now, max temps in Prime are 48 - 50 deg for the CPU about 38 to 40 for the core - depending on ambient temps - but idle or web surfing core is usually around 20 to 25.. I do some video editing, nothing 3D, mostly 720 or 1080.And the only games I play right now are WoW and Tomb Raider. Mainly I want the better CPU for the extra juice video rendering.

I'm on a pretty limited income so getting both a new mobo and CPU would be 3 months b4 I could get the mobo and another 3 to get the CPU - if I upgrade both.

So advice or input appreciated.
Thx

You could probably get a 4.4 or 4.5ghz overclock on the m5a97, if you have sufficient cooling. I've seen people do this on that board. Unless you're thinking of doing a 4,8-5ghz overclock or Crossfiring (you can't sli, by the way), then go for someting like an Asus Sabertooth. The 2nd PCI slot on the M5A97 is 4x and not 16x, therefore would bottleneck any card you crossfire, unless it's REALLY weak.

Cheers.
