My CPU is overclocked at start up and I dont know how to turn this off.

I have a amd 8150 3.6 ghz

I have been using Overdrive and randomly now my BIOS reads my CPU as 4.0 ghz and when I start up windows, it seems to overclock until it reaches a certain temp. I checked the bios and I have nothing set for it to reach a certain temp, its all on AUTO. Overdrive is set to default and to load on default.

My idle temps seem really high at over 40 degrees sometimes higher. I have seen it stay at around 60 on idle then lower to the 30-40 as soon as I start to game again.

Even in overdrive, my target is set to 3600 but my frequency hits 3800-3900.

Many times when I try to load another profile, it will crash my system but it will always allow me to change things manually.

Any ideas?

thanks

is Turbo Core enabled? with Turbo Core enabled, the CPU frequently bounces between 3,6Ghz-4,2Ghz
* 3.6-3.9Ghz for 3-4 fully loaded threads or less load on all of them (8 threads)
* 3,9-4,2Ghz for one or two loaded threads
* versus a straight 3.6Ghz with the feature disabled

Do you mean Turbo Boost. Turbo Boost is not enabled. Its an AS Rock motherboard and it seems to be their way to do a controlled overclock without the user doing anything.

Is turbo core in the Bios or in the program overdrive?

Turbo Core/Boost is the same, AMD call it Core instead :) perhaps the core frequency was increased if you bought your pc whole, some vendors overclock for their customers, i can't really think of anything else

No it was working fine in the beginning but I may have altered something in the BIOS or in Overdrive but not sure.

Is the Turbo Core in option in the BIOS or Overdrive software?
Is there other options that I should disable or enable to make sure that I have full control of my CPU with Overdrive where I can alter the settings myself.

I have a custom PC built by NCIX.
