Hi i have never ever overclocked before and i am going to build my first pc in the next few days. I was originally going to get the G1.Sniper z87 from GIGABYTE, but recently i read reviews on it about how the auto overclocks were extremely badly set, like 1.4v for most of its overclock settings 4.2GHz+. So i was wondering which motherboard, MSI z87 G-45 or G1.Sniper z87 is better for both OC and Gaming?

My current components are:
1. i7 4770k
2. r9 270x
3. CX750M Corsair PSU
4. Noctua NH-D14
5. Phantom 530 case
6. Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB 1600Mhz

I will be mainly playing League Of Legends and some mmorpg, so i dont exactly need an extreme overclock. (I am just interested to try overclocking since i have never tried it ;_;)

Thanks for your help!

Id I were you, I'd get the MSI G45 Gaming. Guessing you meant this board?

If so, I'd get that, it has more PCI slots and is just a better board, since it is MSI afterall. It's also meant towards gaming, since it's the gaming edition. You'll have no proble overclocking it.

You have some seriously warped opinions of MSI.
MSI's cheaper boards are generally pretty bad, at least this used to be the case until the VRMs for Haswell moved to the CPU.

The previous gen (Z77 / Z67) G4x series boards were crappy. Not to mention that ALL MSI AMD board except on the extreme high end are all extremely bad.

So care. :)

Anyway in this case the MSI is decent, still believe the Gigabyte is the better board, but could not tell you why right now. :)

Hmphh.. i have seen ppl saying that GIGABYTE's board is much more reliable compared to most. And plus they have features like 1 to 1 usb fuse unlike the usual 1 to many fuse and that they have some other cool features. I am just not sure if the MSI board has similar features and is better at OC or not ;l

The Sniper has a bit more features. You can compare :
