If money isn't really an object, is there an issue with buying either the Asus Maximus VI Extreme or Formula boards? I see a lot of people buying/recommending the Sabertooth or even the Hero boards on here, and I know as far as performance there really isn't that much difference between them.

I'm just curious. What if I'm the kind of person that likes having all the extras that come with the overpriced motherboards?

My cpu will be the i7-4770k. I also plan on doing some overclocking as well.

It really depends on what integrated features you're looking for. The ROG boards have a more gaming centirc feature bundle and more of a tilt on overclocking tweaks in UEFI. On the overclocking side, the main difference between some of the ROG boards compared to the others is their ability to overclock DRAM a bit better. The gaming side comes down to dedicated audio, Gamefirst LAN (packet prioritizing) and also UEFI addiotns like SSD secure erase.

If those things dont interest you, then sure, you will be fine with a board from the other segments. They all have their strengths.

So just so I'm understanding, the ROG boards are the Extreme and Formula boards right? I thought the Sabertooth and Hero also had the ROG technology.

Thank you sir! :)

I think the Wifi is only available on the Extreme and Formula which is also one of the decision makers for me. I wanted a board that had decent Wifi built-in.

So now I'm trying to decide between the Extreme and Formula. I have OCD and try to get the best of things just for the piece of mind so I may go with the Extreme, but haven't decided yet.
