Yes, Hello, If you've known me for a while... I have this stupid computer called the "hp compaq elite 8100 SFF" Basically, With its 240w PSU, and it i5 660 processor, its sad to say its a "gaming games" But, Slapping in a nvidia gt 620 has allowed this to be a "extremely-low-end" But, That was 2 years ago...

NOW! the R7 240's has came from its shadows, im NEEDING to buy it, but, im scared that the PSU might just, give up, saying its last words meanly to me..

Anyways, Enough drama, Basically, What im asking is, Is the power usage on the two really the same? beacuse, i can run the gt 620 at 810mhz and 650mhz core and mem, (also planning on oc'ing the 240) But, would it really work?

(Here's a refresher on what got me motivated to put in the 620=

For a system using a single GeForce GT 620 graphics card NVIDIA specifies a minimum of a 300 Watt or greater power supply that has a maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 18 Amps or greater.

Total Power Supply Wattage is NOT the crucial factor in power supply selection!!! Sufficient Total Combined Continuous Power/Current Available on the +12V Rail(s) rated at 45°C - 50°C ambient temperature, is the most critical factor.

The HP OEM 240 Watt power supply meets or exceeds the maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating required for a system using a single GeForce GT 620 graphics card.

+12.1Vmain === 14A
+12.1Vcpu === 12A
+12Vsb === 1.3A
-12V === 0.15A

The 80 PLUS database shows that the power supply was tested under full load with the combined +12.1Vmain and +12.1Vcpu at 18.7 Amps.

It's definitely not a standard ATX12V design since there's no +3.3V, +5V and +5Vsb rails.

Yes the power requirements for the R7 240 is 31 watts and your GT 620 is 30 watts and you will definitely run it no problem because adding 1 watt does nothing to your system I can guarantee if your running the GT 620 you can run the R7 240 and the reason it has a higher core clock but does consume more power is because it is a newer card so it is much more efficient then your GT 620. And if your planning on oc'ing it you should be fine just go up in small increments and if your computer crashes just lower the overclock
