I have a somewhat old computer, over 4 years old. While doing some android emulation work on computer, it suddenly shut down and wouldnt start. I have a gigabyte motherboard with AmD phenom 2 cpu. With 4 gig ram. I throught the PSU was dead, so I got another PSU, and did the pin connection test with green and black wire connected and only a fan as load. That worked. The old powersupply failed this test. So after plugging all cables in, still same problem. I dont have a pc beep internal speaker. Have orderd one, but will rcv after 1-2 days. I tried some of the suggestions, like only connecting motherboard and cpu, nothing else, still no boot/post. :(
Dont know if this is a problem wi th the motherboard or the cpu? Interestingly I can use the usb sockets to charge my phone still, so they must be getting power. I have checked for shortcircuits, bt found none. Any suggestions or help?
Thanks in advance.

It seems like the new Power Supply has issues as well.
Can you test with a buddy's system to see if a known good PSU works, or if yours will power up his?
Do you know anyone with a power supply tester?
As a last resort you could take it to a reputable repair shop and they would be able to diagnose the problem.

I think your MB is faulty. Did you hear any beep while you tried with only CPU and MB ? Most MB's has built-in speakers for post beeps as far as I know.

If you didn't hear any beeps then probably the MB is faulty/dead. BTW do your PSU has a on/off switch, check it.

Wierdly enough my motherboard doesn't have a pc beep speaker,so thats why ordered one. The new psu I used is 6 months old, and was working fine in another's PC till a few days back. Is thr a way to test and pinpoint where the problem lies, in the motherboard or the cpu?

Short of testing each component individually in an operating machine, it is tough to know.
Often the MB will have an indicator light that may point to a particular component.
The speaker will be able to give you a beep code if the MB is working sufficiently to produce one.
After that, it may be time to take it to the shop.
