I was looking for a motherboard for use in my first proper gaming PC. I was looking for it to be a competent overclocker with a good bios and obviously deliver good gaming performance. I was looking at the Gigabyte Z87X-UD4H, the Maximus VI hero and the Asus Z87-PRO which are all the same price at around £150 which I believe is around $190 allowing for tax. These are just some i have seen which look good, any alternatives suggestions would be appreciated.

PS if you see anything that stands out as overkill or is the weak point in the system please contribute that also

Solution
Comparing the 3 MBs you mentioned:

The Z87-Pro has wireless, the others would need a $40 PCI-E x1 card if you want wireless.
The Hero has better sound. Mind you, this is for audiophiles - most people wouldn't notice a difference.
The Gigabyte has legacy PCI slots - this could be useful if you have old card you want to reuse.

I'd pick the Hero. Good oveclocker too.
