Good evening all, I'm new to this forum so i will put as much info about the problem as possible. Many thanks in advance for anyone who can help with the issue.

Firstly, my laptop specs are as follows:

Alienware M17xR3
Intel core i7 2ghx cpu
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M graphics
4GB RAM
BIOS updated to latest A12 version

Now the embarrassing part of this thread!

I knocked a glass of wine all over the keyboard of my laptop! I killed the power and turned off the laptop immediately then placed it upside down and dried off very carefully with a hairdryer. I left the laptop for 24 hours then switched it back on.

Initially everything was working correctly so i hooked up the laptop to my TV (via HDMI) and watched some tv shows for a few hours. However, ever since i disconnected the HDMI cable the laptop screen has not worked. I can only use the laptop when it is connected to an external screen via HDMI, this also means i can't access any of the bios settings etc as the HDMI doesn't kick in until the laptop is booted to the windows logon screen.

Having a bit of knowledge about laptops i have already taken the laptop apart and checked for obvious signs of damage but can't find any. As the laptop is no longer been manufactured i am hesitant about claiming through my insurance company as i will get a replacement like for like. The Warranty is well over 18 months out of date too.

Has anyone got any ideas about what the problem could be or how to fix it?

Once again many thanks for the assistance.

With anything but straight water, drying it a hair dryer won't work. The liquid part will simply go away, and leave the sugars and solids behind to gunk things up.

It needs to be taken apart and actually cleaned.
And something internal may well have shorted out. 'No visible damage' does not equal 'no damage'.
