Why is Windows not updating properly?

Hello, I have been encountering problems lately when it comes to updating Windows. The latest update seems to be causing crashes in my computer. Whenever I update, I get a BSOD upon boot where the error is "PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED". This is fixed by doing a System Restore to a point before the update. I have tested the components in my PC and have isolated the problem to the Windows updating. I do not know how I can bypass this problem as the update is then required again after shutting the down and rebooting it. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

I am running Windows 7 SP1 64-bit. I'm not blaming the update itself but how it installs on the PC. I can't tell if there is a program blocking it from installing it properly. I have never encountered a problem updating before so I don't know what is causing it to update improperly.

My guess is you have a virus, or malware, and you are not going back far enough to get rid of it.

If it is modern malware, you are not going to detect it, in most cases.

You can try scanning with MS malicious software tool.

I wouldn't spend too much time on it.
I would do a clean install, as even with detection cleaning programs, you can never be sure you got them all.

If you clock is wrong, it won't run, but you got past that point.

If the hardware is good, what else is there.
