RAM Timings Question

Hello, I am sorry but I am quite new to overclocking. Basically I bought some DDR2 1066mhz RAM but it is configured at 800mhz right now. Thats what it defaults too.

I have a q6600 and an old gigabyte board(1066mhz is compatible)

The timings of the RAM on the sticker are this: 5-7-7-25 at 1.8V

However CPUZ shows these timings for 555mhz ( 6-7-7-25-32) (7-7-7-25-32)

On my BIOS I cannot load XMP profiles so I have to do it manually

When I put the RAM on Auto and to 1100 or 1066 the computer doesnt boot.

Please can you help me with the problem

Thanks

There is no voltage option to set to 1.8v however there is DDR2 overvoltage control which gives me settings such as "+0.1v" etc

Is there any way I can check the current voltage of my RAM. Do you think its a voltage issue because I do know 1.8v is high I think and my old RAM was 1.5v

Thanks

The Motherboard is GA-EP31-DS3L (rev. 2.1)

It does allow 1066mhz

It's a custom build system from 2009.

Thank you, i checked the supported memory but the chances of finding exact ones are rare and it doesnt mean others should not work does it ?

Hi, ive got 2x2gb in channels 1 and 3.

I can overclock past 800 but i cannot get to 1066. I am at 938mhz at the moment.

HWmonitor says RAM is running at 1.936v

is this too much, overvoltage is on auto?

I personally never take my voltage past the max spec for the memory on any of my rigs. Seen to many people fry sticks. Have you tried manually changing the timings of the memory? You may be trying to run MHZ to high for current for current Latency settings. Try loosening up the timings if you have the option to. Honestly if you got it to 938mhz, I think I would settle. The differences between that and 1066mhz will only be noticeable when benchmarking.

Props on keeping this 775 socket alive. I still have an old e5500 Pent. dual-core we use as our HTCP. I don't think we've shut it down in over 6 months

Good luck and remember to have fun when OCing otherwise it ain't worth doin!!!

Hi, I have no idea how to change the timings, i wish I knew how but i dont think the motherboard allows it
I havnt manually set voltage, it goes to 1.9v automatically instead of 1.8v

They have heat spreaders on so it probably helps with the temps

If you don't see any settings in your bios for adjusting CL(Cas Latetency), TRAS(Cycle Time), CR (Command Rate), etc. then you probably don't have the option to adjust timings. If you can find the setting to manually adjust Memory voltage I would set it at the recommended 1.8v. I wish I could give you more detail but its been a long time since I've had my brain in a C2Q. Maybe we could help you out more if you could snap some pics of your bios screens and upload...Heat is not your only enemy, with Ram you can over volt it to premature death.

You shouldn't need to overclock the RAM, should just be a manual profile that lets you pick 1066.

His first post states he has no XMP Profiles to select. Most of us are all spoiled with these settings and long forgotten actually having to manually configure our overclocks. I never use the profiles anyways.

Agreed.. Performance gains will only be noticeable when benchmarking

And even than, very minimal on the CPU part only.
