My boyfriend and I have been exploring parts lists for days now, doing relevant research and I'm just curious as to how this build looks. I want to make sure that when everything's arrived, it will all fit and run wow reasonably well for the price. I'm a total first timer, but I feel ready- just need a little guidance!

Please feel free to edit and go through as you see fit!

thanks so much in advance, everyone :)

One note: My hope is to run WoW on High - Ultra settings with medium - high FPS.

Something like this perhaps, modern i3s have gotten pretty powerful

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: Intel Core i3-4130 3.4GHz Dual-Core Processor ($119.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: Asus B85M-G Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($77.98 @ OutletPC)
Memory: A-Data XPG V1.0 4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($32.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($59.67 @ Amazon)
Video Card: XFX Radeon HD 7850 2GB Video Card ($139.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Cougar Solution (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($29.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Corsair...
With a CPU intensive game like WoW you'd probably want a CPU with powerful single threaded performance like an i5 (which would be tough to fit within that $500 budget)

Either way that setup will give you decent performance in WoW at higher settings

Even a Haswell i3 will give you better performance in WoW and Skyrim

As a fellow WoW player, I've been keeping track of what hardware works best on our game. I have heard from many sources that AMD processors have issues with WoW. At the same price point, AMD Athlon and Phenom processors are about 20% slower than Intels, and Bulldozer processors are 30% slower. You're far better off with an Intel chip, even if it is just a Celeron or Pentium.

Along the same price point as the one you propose, I advise a Pentium G3420 and an Asrock B85 Pro4 or MSI CSM-B85M-E45. Those might be a little above your budget, but you can go down to the Pentium G3220 without much of a performance hit, and still be considerably faster than that Phenom.

Yeah, I was thinking of shooting for 8gb of ram. So, with that setup you suggested and a bit additional ram; you'd say that looks like a good setup to run WoW well on High-Ultra in a 25man setting?

Okay, I'm being a pest now.. I just want to make sure I'm okay. xD

Aside from the parts listed above, I should be concerned with getting some sort of CPU cooler? I'm really not sure how that all works. I've been watching video's and reading; thermal paste/thermal glue (I have all the tools I need including a grounding bracelet) is there anything else I might need?

The i3 4130 should come with Intel's stock cooler with thermal paste preapplied on the base of the heatsink, the i3 is technically overclockable though it's not really worth it, so an aftermarket cooler isn't really needed

Might be a good idea to use a magnetic screwdriver, makes things slightly easier
