I purchased Windows 7 Home Premium disc & want to install it on a Toshiba Satellite C855-S5350 that I've had for about 1 year, that's running Windows 8 (hate Win8) How can I delete the 4 or 5 partitions & format the drive to install Win 7

That option is available in the beginning of the Win7 installation. Just click Drive options (advanced). Delete the existing partitions, make a single new partition when done*, format, and continue with the installation.

* Win7 will also make a small hidden partition for itself.

Thank you for the reply. The partitions are grayed out, except for the Win 8 installation, but I got a GPT error there. There are no advanced options available. Is there a change I need to make in the BIOS first?

Sorry, I don't think I'm explaining it very well. I did have to go in the BIOS first to disable the secure boot. I then had to stop and go do errands. I will try the install again and grab a screen shot or write down the error I'm getting. Thank you!

First tried to boot from Win 7 installation CD and it tells me there is no boot record on the CD. I then tried running it from within Win 8 (which I don't like doing it that way) and that's where the options were grayed out and no advanced options available, then it gave me the GPT error

I've done many Vista installs in the past on different laptops, so I know the advanced options you are referring to. I was surprised to not see them with Win 7. But what I'm aiming for here is a clean hard drive and a fresh install of Win 7. I'm wondering if Toshiba has something built into this laptop that won't allow me to do this?

It's possible it said boot sector, not boot record. I bought the DVD from New Egg, 80 bucks on sale and it is not an upgrade

You didn't happen to leave a USB flash drive in one of the USB ports that it is trying to boot from did you?
You didn't accidentally have the disk in upside down, did you?

I'm not trying to be insulting, just trying to cover all bases.
Put the disk in the optical drive and reboot. What happens?

No USB flash drives in ports and disc is in correctly. I tried again to boot from CD and this time it copied files then hung on windows start up screen. I'm now running it from within win 8. The partitions were not grayed out this time but there were still no advanced options. Geez this thing has 5 partitions lol.I chose the primary (C) drive and a message popped up that says "The partitions on the disk selected for installation are not in the recommended order"

Then it went on to copying files and is at 96% right now. Now it's expanding files.
It rebooted and hung. Darn it.Now it's wanting to do a repair. grr

I can't figure out how to get into the BIOS to check the settings. No matter what key I hit on boot it won't boot to the BIOS. I got in there previously by accident. lol this makes me nuts.

Hi JoyceQuilla,

Here is what you need to do:
1) Boot unit and press F2 to get into BIOS
2) Go to "Security" tab and disable "Safe Boot"
3) Go to "Advanced" tab, select "System Configuration" then change boot mode from "UEFI" to "CSM"
4) Press F10 to save changes and exit.

Now you can load win7 setup and use all advanced drive-options ;)

Good luck,
Inge
