Hello, I'm a first time builder of a PC. When I went to install my Athlon X4 750k in my motherboard, I accidently forgot to unhook the retention arm. I gently took it back out, opened the retention arm and put it back in and locked it in place. Does anyone know if putting the cpu in with the retention arm down can harm the cpu? I don't know if it works because I don't have all of the components to do a test boot. Please help.

Solution
Well it's possible to bend one or more pins doing that but if the CPU fits in the socket and latched down with no effort then you should be OK.

the amd pins looks pretty thick compaired to the intel ones on the mobo...
No offence but the intel pins looks like they can be broken if my hair falls on them.
I once dropped my phenom II series pins downwards and came out intact.
But look at them with a mignifier and check for bend pins. If so, try returning them :D

Thanks guys. I can't look at the pins because the stock cooler is installed and I'm not about to uninstall it. After I took the CPU out and put it back in again there was no resistance or anything that felt wrong with it. Personally I had this old PC that no one use and I stripped it of it's AMD apu and smashed it on a counter top... none of the pins were bent significantly so I doubt that setting it down in a locked cpu socket will do anything. Thanks.
