Hello everyone!

I seem to be having a performance issue with my computer at the moment with a couple of games (or my pc just sucks).

I can barely get 40fps on AC4: Black Flag which I understand is a powerful game, but my setting are on the lowest they can go at 1080. I also recently got Skyrim, which is a fairly old game, but again I seem to only get 60fps when everything is on low. I thought my PC would be able to handle such games. Just want to make sure that this is a typical fps for these games on my pc or if there is something wrong.

System:
Windows 7-64bit
MSI 970A-G45 Motherboard
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 RAM
AMD FX-6300 Six Core CPU
AMD Radeon HD 7700
Seagate ST3200822A-RK 200 GB ATA Internal Hard Drive (i know its really old)
ENERMAX Noisetaker II EG701AX VE(W) SFMA 600W ATX12V Power Supply (really old as well)
(let me know if you need any other specs)

Hopefully you all can help me out. Thanks!

For hard drives I have some recommendation links listed below. The WD Blue will perform at a slower rate than the WD Black but has more storage space. I have found from personal experiance and in managing the SAN's at my workplace that Western Digital drives tend to hold up well and in the case one fails they have an excellent warranty program.

CPUZ says "AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series
Core 1000 MHz
Memory 112 MHz
Size 1024 MBytes

I believe this is what I have. - MSI Radeon HD 7770 (R7770-2PMD1GD5/OC) 1024MB PCIe x16 Gen 3.0

yes, it says 7700 SERIES, its not a model number.
Also, 7770 is not the best card out there, so 40 fps at black flag on 1080p is reasonable
on skyrum, u prob turned on vertical sync, which means ur max fps is ur screens refresh rate, at 60hz, its max 60 fps.
TUrn off vertical sync and fps will skyrocket(maybe), not recommanded though.

Your Graphics card is holding you back. A Radeon HD 7770 doesn't fare too well under Skyrim at 1080p

I usually pair an AMD FX-6300 with a Radeon HD 7870 2GB card (Radeon R9 270x 2GB).

Does my old hard drive really have anything to do with the low fps?

It shouldn't cause you any big drops in FPS as long as it's not a SATA r1 specification drive but an older hard drive with low read speeds can cause poor software performance especially on software that need to fetch very large files. How much room do you have left on that hard drive? Note if your running less than 75% of the capacity of the hard drive to ensure you defragment it at most monthly as bad fragmentation on a rather full hard drive increases the risk of file corruption.

ok. So do you think if I upgrade my GPU I will be able to play black flag relatively well? Or would I need to upgrade anything else? Also, what would be a good hard drive to update to?

Thanks!

Graphics card wise, a Radeon R9 270x would be a good start: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131529
