So I finally put a parts list together. My first question about it are: Are all of these parts compatible? Assuming I throw this together correctly, it should be smooth sailing? I also have one concern as far as my GPU. With this same setup, should I opt for the 4GB card? The price jump is worth it, but I'm not sure if it is a wise choice. I did some reading that made me think otherwise. This is why I am here. Lastly, will my air cooling be sufficient? I'm aiming for a cool PC. The main reason I am building this in the first place is because lately I noticed my laptop temps get too high and I get a random shutdown. (At least thats what I've narrowed it down to)... but anyways.
I appreciate comments, feedback, rants, etc. Let me have it. Most importantly, answer the questions :) I would like to ensure that this goes smoothly and doesn't become a $1500 nightmare. Thanks everyone.

When you want build help I strongly encourage using this format:
Approximate Purchase Date: e.g.: this week (the closer the better)

Budget Range: (e.g.: 300-400) Before / After Rebates; Before / After Shipping

System Usage from Most to Least Important: (e.g.: Folding@Home, gaming, surfing the internet, watching movies)

Are you buying a monitor: Yes / No



Parts to Upgrade: (e.g.: CPU, mobo, RAM) **Include Power Supply Make & Model If Re-using**

Do you need to buy OS: Yes / No
Please note that if you're using an OEM license of Windows, you will need a new one when buying a new motherboard.

That lets us know exactly what you need. No need to buy a car that goes 400mph if all the roads only let you go 20 :p

As far as the build you posted. Laptops and Pcs differ greatly. That case already has plenty of air flow. The aftermarket CPU fan is a bit of over kill. I mean you can get it if you want.

I wont post up my own build or anything as it greatly depends on those key questions asked above. So answer those and edit it into your first post and then im sure a lot of people will be happy to recommend things to you.

Thanks for the reply. I am new to Tom's, so I will keep your post in mind for future reference, although I believe I left enough information to answer for my specific questions. I did not see compatibility issues on PcPartPicker, so I guess I'm clear. As for the aftermarket cooler, I decided why not? Its cheap, gets excellent reviews, and seemed sufficient. Better safe than sorry.. and after all.. cooler is better! On another note; if I ordered these parts, I shall be ok? I'm thinking of buying a 1920x1200 or something similar for a display.

You did not really list anything that I could use to help you. You talked about your current laptop which you apparently are over heating and stated you want a pc that doesnt over heat. I could poop out pc parts into a box and accomplish that.

Thats really what I am getting to. You built a system that may be twice as much as it needs to be to complete what your doing. There might be a lot of money you can save by just giving me or anyone an accurate description of what you actually need.

I wasnt asking much.. I asked if it was compatible. I asked if I should get a 2 or 4GB card (which after re-reading I left out some stuff.. got side tracked on another post). I asked about air cooling being enough. You answered those, so thanks. I also never said I was trying to save money :D
