Minecraft and 7970 Seems to have an actual driver cap when it comes to GPU Usage.

So for the past year I been beyond mad owning a 7970. Biggest reason is I play Minecraft and run a few servers as my main hobby and been doing it for years. For some reason a while back did not care or notice as at the time I was not play any kind of modded type server my FPS got tanked by some kind new driver update. One of the members in my community same card similar specs was thinking sometime a year ago give or take a few months.

So what is wrong? Well when we look at the sky on our modded private pack. Almost all of us with the same card and there is actually 3 of us get 250 FPS. At this point I'm thinking something must be capping it. Clearly we have 64big java, overclocked CPU (I7's 2600k and newer), no vsync, no frame limits, Max fps settings etc. I can tell you the inside and outside of my settings but I clearly have the basics covered for sure. Hell I played around with Java 8 for fun. Works fine but no improvement in the fps.

Now with a GTX 760/690 People are getting 500-700 FPS it's a bit more up and down but at the same time it seems way uncapped. Their GPU Usage is at 100% etc. Where ours is about 25%...

So I decided to take this further. I OC my GPU more and my GPU Usage went under... So I downclocked to 460Mhz... Then it went to 50% Usage and still 250 FPS....

Here is the pictures:

Yeah....

Now before you guys and girls say 250 FPS is enough you might want to do a bit more research on Java, OpenGL and maybe how Minecraft was codded and understand how you can actually feel a big difference. Now that is just me saying that just to cover my butt there but TBH. We are using a heavy modded Minecraft pack. The more I build my town and the more machines I place the more my FPS sinks more and more down. Soon I will be down to 40-50 FPS where I could be at 100-150 FPS and this all seems to be some kind of change AMD did in the past.

So is there any solutions any special drivers done by the community that might work? This the first time I have made a post like this before never really cared much as my Video cards been just fine with games. But Minecraft my biggest joy in my life right now is being ruined by this :(

Thanks!

Everyone is using the same resolution 1080P. The way MC Is codded I did not think it mattered as much also but I could be wrong. 20% gpu activity seems to be my issue :(

Not really about the 250 FPS. And if you read my thread you know that there is a reason why 250 is just not enough. So how do I make Minecraft trigger higher usage or make it think it's a 3d game. I tried googling trying make a profile set the 2d to the same as the 3d clock speeds.
