So I bought this laptop off of craigslist about..a year ago, literally from today, and for the first few months things went pretty good.

Its a gateway P-7805u, played most games at decent settings (sometimes ultra), although sometime around..November of last year, I noticed the temps started to rise.

It wasn't too bad, as during gaming, the laptop maybe got up to 85c at the most, and that was after an hour or two, but now, in the present, as I speak, I can't even play a game for 20 minutes without my GPU skyrocketing to over 100c (I think 104c is my record so far)

Now..85c scared me, but when I saw my gpu go over 100c I almost crapped myself. I'm amazed the laptop hasn't burnt out yet (or the gpu for that matter), but, I'd like to prevent that from happening.

I've cleaned it periodically, blown out the vents with compressed air, opened up the back, cleaned dust out of the heat-sink, I even had a laptop cooler running under it for a while, but not even that helps anymore.

What I havent tried...was applying new Thermal paste, as I'm sure it hasnt had that in a long time.

What I'm worried about though, is that the Thermal paste isn't the real problem here.

I'm not that..experienced when it comes to what thermal-paste does and what it doesnt do, but do you think that by reapplying a new coat, I could solve these overheating issues?

I don't want to sink money into something that isn't going to work.

P.S: Also, could anyone recommend any good thermal paste? Something you can get in-store. (I've got like a $15 limit)
