I was looking at laptop chargers for my HP Pavilion G6-1325sa and found 2 results that both said they were for this model. How

Solution
It appears that the 65w version of the power brick has the 5.5x3.0 pin and the 90w has the 7.4x5.0. Your brick should list it's power output in watts - I'd match that. You can also do a quick measurement of the tip - there's enough difference between 5.5 and 7.4 to be comfortable with your reading of the size.

I checked both and the voltage and power figures are OK but I still can't see how the tips can be different sizes. Unfortunately there is no indication with my original charger of what the tip size is and I have no way of measuring to mm sizes.

If you look on the brick there is a representation of the jack. It will look kinda like: [strike]O[/strike] - C - +

The C is the outer shell and the - is the tip. There will polarity signs ( + and -). Generally, the outer shell is - (ground) and the tip (inside) is + (positive).

Thanks for your help Mark, which is much appreciated. I am OK with the technical aspects it is just the physical dimensions quoted for the tip sizes which are puzzling. Both the web sites I saw guarantee that these are chargers for the exact laptop model, but the tip sizes are completely different. The actual figures given are 5.5mm*3.0 (on www.coywood.co.uk) and 7.4mm*5.0 (on www.laptop-power.co.uk). Both these retailers seem to be reputable from what I can gather and both are considerably cheaper than HPs own price.

Label says 65W. I managed to get a rough size and it is around 7mm external so I'll go with that. Thanks for all your help.
