Hi, i recently upgraded my GPU for christmas going from a HD6870 to a R9 280X at the start i had some weird problems with the bios which caused my pc not to boot with the new GPU i had to go back to an earlier bios to get it to work. after i got it to work i noticed an increase in speed but i feel that im not getting what i should. for example in battlefield i get 60 then when looking in a certain direction i get frame drops to like 30 which really bugs me. i then underclocked my GPU and got more stable FPS. i was going to buy a new CPU and get the FX-8350 but found out i would have to update the bios and im scared that if i do that the system will not boot again.
My Specs:
AMD Phenom II X4 965 @4.1Ghz
Asus R9 280X
8Gb Samsung Ram
Corsair H60 Water Cooler
FPS 600w Power supply
Asus M5A99X Motherboard

Thank you to anybody who replies!

More about : appreciated

There are two boards, "M5A99X EVO" and "M5A99X EVO R2.0".
Do you know which one you have?
Which BIOS version do you currently have?
Which BIOS version did you try to install?

I have the EVO not the R2.0, i have bios version 1208 and i tried to upgrade to the latest one and the earliest one, i may be wrong but this was the one that worked, maybe i didn't check it properly but like i said im scared to do it as last time my pc was down for like 3 weeks!

You need to go to BIOS version 1604 to support the new CPU.
Maybe they have broken something with the old CPUs in this update.
If you do get the new CPU, you should at least be able to boot with it and then update the BIOS.
