WeMo on College WiFi

I've been wanting to get a WeMo for my dorm room for a while now because my Lamp is on my desk and it's really annoying to have to get up out of bed to turn it off when I'm all comfortable.

So my question being, in the setup of my a WeMo wall socket, could I run into any problems connecting it to the network? As it's the school network I don't have access to the router.

Anyone have any experience with these things?

I've never tried it at a school, but it should still work.
To setup a WeMo device, you plug it in and then until it is setup, the device creates its own network. You connect to this network through your smartphone with the WeMo app to tell the device which network it should connect to to connect to the internet. This way you do not need physical access to the router at all, just the network id and password.
