Hey all,

I've been trying to help my brother build his first PC but I'm having trouble picking out parts. I built one a year and a half ago and spent about $1.1k, but he only wants to spend $800 max and every build I come up with ends up in the $8-900 range.

Sadly, he's against using his HDTV as a temporary monitor so he'll need to factor in one as well (he said it doesn't need to be big, so 18" range is probably fine). He'll also need an OS and disk drive (his internet is somewhat slow so I don't want to stick him with downloading every game he wants to play).

He also said that he doesn't care too much about graphics, but I want to make sure whatever GPU he gets will last a little while. I had originally thought the GTX 760, but that's going to be way over budget.

Sorry for the delay, the week got crazy fast. Here's the build I came up with. It's a sort of an amalgam of Marco and Shortstuff + some stuff that I have current deals for. I tried PC part picker but the prices were messed up due to some promocodes I have for Newegg, so here's the wishlist. (*Note, there's an extra PSU and GPU in the list because my brother might be able to get a monitor from a friend and could shift some of the cost over to upgrading those)

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=32232388

Total price after rebates and promo codes, including shipping, is $848. Sadly a lot of the deals from your builds weren't available even when I looked last weekend. I'm asking my bro if he'd rather switch down to the 7850 or a different monitor to save some here and there, but we'll see. The promo codes are for the OS (-$20) and disk drive (-$7).

Look good?

Update: Apparently he might be able to get a monitor from a friend, in which case I might have him upgrade to this MSI GTX 760. I'm just wondering why it's so much cheaper than the rest...
