So, I recently bought an MSI GTX 770 TF/OC 4gb edition GPU for gaming from my local parts store. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127747)

And I just took another look today, and for the same price, they have a sapphire R9 290.

I don't plan on returning it as I've already installed the latest drivers and Apps related to the GPU and I cannot be bothered installing a new one. (Plus, I like nvidia).

But in your honest opinion, do you think I should've gone with the R9 290 and why?
Thanks in advance :)

No, R9 is not an overkill, but 770 is good (very good) enough for this resolution...

you didnt get ripped off.. the r9 290 is a great card but with a stock cooler it gets to 95 degrees and reduces his clocks to get cooler so to cool it you had to pay a lot for waterblocks/other shit

If they have a 290 for 400 usd and you do not mind thermals, noise, and can do without nvidia specials get it, it keeps pace with a 780. That is my suggestion, and could you throw me a link if they have one for 400 haven't seen a 290 go for 400 recently due to overpricing. I still would get it an put an aftermarket cooler on it, but thats just me.

Grammar edit and realized it wasn't aftermarket cooler.

Well, my monitor has a refresh rate of 60hz and maxes at 1080p, so I aim to achieve 60fps at 1080p on ultra / max settings with vsync lock (sometimes downscaled AA for fps boosts if neccessary).

So which would be preffered in that case? Is the 290 overkill?
