Can you damage your computer by having more power for your PC?

Can you damage your PC by having more power(watts)
I don't know about this but I'm quite new on building a gaming PC and not sure if more power will damage my PC or help it

i dont think so, i have 1200 psu and only 500 is used, havent gotten anything negative

If you mean having a 1000W power supply for a system that would work fine with 400W, no you don't damage your PC, but you damage your budget...

No. You can only damage it by buying a low quality unit.

Your parts wont be damaged no. But you PSU might work less efficiently depending on its Efficiency curve and Load. Thats not going to kill anything. Just dont buy cheap Brands/Units

the wattage of a power supply is potential output.in other words if you have a component drawing 50w @12v the power supply will deliver 50w @12v.if the component draws 100w the power supply will deliver 100w. its the same with power supplies of any kind including phone chargers.the psu will deliver the wattage required by the component up to the max rating on the power supply.so,no,damage to components will not happen.neither is it bad for the psu.
