Most laptop cpus are actually pga and are removable. The only thing that is typically soldered is the gpu. In fact his cpu is pga, it's socket fs1. The issue is laptop cpus aren't sold in retail so second hand places like ebay is the only place you can find them. There's also the issue of companies not publishing cpu compatibility lists but contacting their support will usually get it. You can also run into power and heat issues from upgrading to a higher cpu that the included power brick and heatsink was never designed for.
