Recently I received amessage on my windows computer that my gmail had been hacked. I changed the password as requested. Two days ago I received a phone call from Cyber Security for windows (George). He told me that my computer had been hacked and he wanted to help me. He gave me a telephone number with extension and his last name. He had a thick Indian accent. He said he would call meback if I didn't call him.
I took it for a scam call. I had recently changed passwords on my emails and run both my Windows Defender and System Mechanic Pro. I certainly hope he will not call back.
Have Google and Microsoft been hacked recently? I only have one windows computer and don't use it much.

Or better still - string them long.. while they talking to you- they are not talking to someone who might really fall for their scam.

If I have time.. I pretend to be really worried that my machine may have issues.. and suggest it really important my machine OK as it has very valuable info on it...
But then I play REALLY thick.. and ask them to explain everything to me.. and pretend to do it all wrong so they have to keep repeating what to do.. etc... .. and get "cut off" so they call me back etc.. anything to waste their time..

VERY satisfying :)
Im hoping it means they end up blacklisting me... so don't call again.. I get a fair few of these calls.

The fact that the OP didn't realize immediately that the call was a scam means that he/she doesn't yet posses the requisite skillset to pull off a successful reverse scam, thus the advise to simply hang up. Oh, I do string them along. I've got several VMs ready to rock in my DMZ on a moments notice. Last one was on the hook for almost 2 hours. They can't get off the line fast enough when I tell them I've recorded all their actions for further forensic analysis.
