So I've seen a thousand posts on the same thing and I can't find a solution. This is my first pc build and everything is plugged in correctly. I have 4 sata cables plugged in, One for case, second for HDD1, third for HDD2, and the forth is my CD reader. I got into my BIOS and my ram is recognized as is my video card (which I am running my DVI cable to) and in the bIOS it shows all 6 of my SATA ports and not present for all of them.

FYI, I used the IDE, AHCI, and RAID modes and still nothing. I tried removing each individual sata plug and try one at a time and still nothing. AND I tried CMOS restart several times to no avail.
PLEASE help. This is driving me crazy.

Solution
start with one cable and one drive see if one of the drives or the case is stopping the sata ports from working. if the ports are working the drives should show up in the main bios screen. put your hand on the hard drives feel that there spining up to speed.

Yes I plugged in the power and they work because I can open my cd drive. My bios has a boot system with hard drive, USB, etc. but none are an actual name for my hard drives or my cd drive.

There are only 6gb sata ports. 4 are being used. None are recognized.

And I just went and got the same exact motherboard and it's doing the same exact thing. No recognition of the sata ports
