Hello I have a Gigabyte R9 270X and i was wondering if a Corsair vs650 would be sufficient to power it. Can a 8 pin power connector be used as a 6 pin power connector?

dont buy vs or cx series of Corsair...Cheap construction. Go with a seasonic or Silverstone or Corsair HX or AX series.

Most PSUs have 8 and 6 pin or they have 6+2 which can be used in 6pin and 8 pin configs. The extra 2 pins will most likely get in your way when trying to plug into a 6 pin. I suppose you could cut the end 2 off but I wouldn't recommend it seeing as most PSUs have ability to cover both options.

I stated that on a 6+2 pin they can be used for 6 and 8 pin connectors but for a 8 pin connector to be used on a 6 you would have to cut two pins off...Sorry for the poor wording

Yes it is a step up I suppose. But if you want cheap you might as well stick with what you've got. If you are going to upgrade why not buy something more solid and reliable.
