I just bought a new i7 4770k and an Asus z87 -a and 32 GB of Patriot 2133 mhz RAM to upgrade my current build.

Current Build:

  • Corsair TX850
    Gigabyte 870a-ud3
    i7 860
    Kingston 2x4 GB DDR3 RAM 1600 mhz
    Samsung 830 SSD

New Build:

  • Corsair TX850
    Asus z87 -a
    i7 4770k
    4x8 GB Patriot 2133 mhz
    Samsung 830 SSD

I installed my motherboard in my case, added RAM and CPU then connected everything with my PSU. Started. POST had no problems.

Next I pressed F2 to enter UEFI and clicked on advanced settings... Suddenly a freeze occured when I scrolled down a bit then I turned off the computer after waiting 2-3 minutes.

Then I tried turning it on to notice:

  • Fans are working
    DRAM LED flashing red
    CPU LED is flashing red

So I cleared CMOS by following the steps in the manual but it's still not working. And yes I checked different RAM, cpu for bent pins. PSU is working on my other build. It doesn't look like a PSU/CPU/RAM problem.

Now the CPU fan is spinning, CPU LED is flashing and because there is no RAM the DRAM LED is solid red.

I cannot access UEFI/BIOS because it's not even starting. I can't set my RAM Memory on auto. No signal.

Insert single RAM stick and test again.

I tried that before

CPU + CPU Fan + 1 RAM (A1 to B2) = CPU Led and DRAM Led flashing
CPU + No CPU Fan + 1 RAM (A1 to B2) = CPU Led solid and DRAM Led flashing
CPU + No CPU Fan + No RAM (A1 to B2) = CPU Led and DRAM Led solid
CPU + CPU Fan + No RAM (A1 to B2) = CPU Led flashing and DRAM Led solid

Same results with another PSU.

I read blinking may indicate a short, but I can't imagine how this could happen.
