Choppy mouse performance while gaming

When I'm playing games (I've really only noticed it with first person games such as COD or Skyrim), after a few minutes the mouse will start acting up. The best way I can describe it is lagging, with choppy movements and short freezing (freezes for less than a second, every few seconds).

The weird thing is, I've had this problem with 2 different computers and 2 different mice. Both mice are Logitech wireless; I know wireless isn't the best for gaming but could that really be the issue? I've read that mouse acceleration could be an issue but I've turned that off. Enhanced pointer precision is on. It's very frustrating and I can't play for more than a few minutes before I quit.

Solution
Most of the time windows device manager will tell you drivers are all up to date anyways and disks that come with products often have out of date drivers. I would go to manufacturers web page and manually download/install drivers.

If that doesn't fix ya, I've also had the issue of having to move receiver closer to mouse with my cheapo gearhead wireless optical. Get a USBtoUSB cable and move mouse receiver to within about 8 inches of mouse.

I doubt that would be the issue, as it works fine when I'm not playing games, and it works fine for the first 1-2 minutes im playing a game. I'm using a mouse mat already, but I'll try it on different surfaces to see if there's any change.

Edit: Alright, I'm not even playing any games right now, and it's starting to act up.

I would suggest you to completely uninstall the mouse drivers and reinstall the latest drivers. You may follow the steps below:

*Press ‘Windows’ key + R on ‘Desktop’ screen
*Type ‘devmgmt.msc’ in run box and press ‘Enter’
*Click > sign next to ‘Mice and Other pointing Device’
*Right click the entry listed under ‘Mice and Other pointing Device’ and click ‘Uninstall’
*Click ‘Yes’ on the security warning

You may install the latest drivers from the system or hardware manufacture’s website.

Hope this helps.

Try new drivers first and cleaning the eye.

On my mouse i had to put a usb extension cable and mount it near my mouse for it to not have the issues you describe.

I didnt really nottice it while normal use but while moving fast gaming my mouse had the same issue, i removed my mousepad and its completely gone

This is on a gigabyte eco n600

This computer isn't even a week old, and I bought the mouse today. However, I installed the chipset drivers using the CD that came with the motherboard, and I've heard that isn't the best option.

Go into to Device manager and update ALL your drivers.

Well I just tested the mouse on different surfaces again, and it seems there's certain areas of the mat (and desk) where the mouse seems to get stuck. It's an old, dirty, stained mat, and it's also the only common denominator between the two computers and two mice that I've had this problem on.

I'll go buy a new mat tomorrow, but the only thing that's bothering me still is that the buttons have issues as well when it starts acting up.

Just plugged the receiver into the USB extension that came with my keyboard, moved right next to my mouse/keyboard, and after a couple minutes of experimentation I cannot replicate the problem.

Not sure if this really was the problem or if it will come back, but for now I'll take it as the solution.

Thanks everyone for your help.
