Is it bad if I RMA'd a Motherboard and couldn't put cap back on the LGA slot?

I recently RMA'd a Motherboard with bent pins with Newegg, and couldn't figure out how to put the cap back on the LGA slot, and instead just put the cap in the box and shipped it. Only now did I realize this might be a bad thing.

I called customer support and was told that if I had the cap in the box with everything that it would not be a problem, and wasn't told to put said cap on in any instructions i received in the email. But I am still worried it might be a problem.

Should I be worried?

I am prepared actually to send it to ASUS for repair if they reject the RMA, or just get a new Mobo and try to fix the pins on the one they hopefully don't reject...unfortunately that's what you get when you're not careful and stupid.
