I don't know a lot about tech but my GPU is malfunctioning so I need a new one. I like to play some high end games from time to time so I need a decent GPU. My current graphic card spec (copy and paste link into url to see img)

I was thinking of replacing current GPU with this...

I have no idea if this card is better than my current card (in pic). I also don't know if my PSU would bottle neck this new card. Is my PSU capable of running this new card?

Could you recommend a card in the £300 range?

Please be simple in your replies.

Thanks!

Since none of those provide any information as to what your PSU's wattage rating is, I really can't say if the R9 270X will run in your system. That said, that card is much, much, much, much, much more powerful than your current one. If you open up the computer case, your PSU should have a sticker showing power ratings at certain voltages (for instance, it might say 22A in the column under 12V). On that sticker it should say the wattage. If that wattage is at least 550W, you should be able to run an R9 270X just fine.

That said, if you do get an R9 270X, do not bother with the 4gb version. Stick to the 2GB version. It already has far more than you'll actually use, so save your money.

For £300 you can get a GTX 770 or R9 280X. Both perform about the same.

R9 280X

You can run either with a 500W PSU or better.

You have to open your case to see your PSU's power ratings. It will be printed on a sticker on the PSU. The most important is the amount of amps on +12V rail.

Hey! I opened up and checked the numbers. My PSU seems very weak at +12V it reads 17A and maybe you understand these numbers: DC O/P 405W.

So I'm guessing I'm 145W short. Are there any better GPU cards for my PSU? If I bought the card I suggested, would it still function with my PSU? I'm a little confused.

Thanks!

Yeah I just noticed you're using P=IV equation I learnt in high school!

I see a PSU @600W relatively cheap. Thing is, if I upgrade my PSU & GPU, will I then have to upgrade motherboard?

Is it best to buy a new PC entirely? Will two new parts throw my PC out of balance?
