SATA hard drives and DVDs are not being recognised on a PC with a DA061/078L mobo. I have shorted/reset BIOS and tried with several drives. It may be a controller chip failure. It has an external esata and I wondered if I could boot off that, although that may use the same control chip - I don't know. Any ideas? Thank you.

Ok, then you've got it right it if you don't detect ANY SATA drive (DVD drive included...) it's most likely a motherboard issue. (since you tried BIOS reset already...)

Yes, I've also tried switching between IDE and AHCI without effect. I've now found that BIOS will occasionally detect SATA drives - never long enough to install an O/S. The problem started with windows 7 slowing down and then not responding. So I eventually diagnosed a hard drive failure, bought a new one and here I am with possibly a dead mobo. Thanks for replying.

Thanks jb. It's helpful to get a good second opinion. All the best. S
