So, I have this really old PC and I want to upgrade. Since its CPU socket is 775, I can't upgrade the CPU, so I decided to upgrade the GPU and some other parts first. I want to buy the GTX 660, and I'm curious if it's compatible with the mobo (ASrock G41M-VS3). I can't upgrade the whole rig at once as I don't have enough funds yet.

It isnt a good idea to go that recent, a second hand gtx460 would be a much better bet.
I have seen several complaints of incompatibility with 775/ 6xxx Nvidia cards. You say you cant upgrade the cpu? why not ? Whats in it?
There are thousands of 775 chips on ebay. cheap as. .

and yes, upgrading it is a good idea. Socket 775 cpu's are mostly low-end ones my left cheek! A q6600 cpu and a gtx 460 will set you back about £65 and make a decent machine while you save for a fresh build that will play new games at higher settings.

Thanks for the replies folks! I don't remember the exact model of the CPU, and I'm not around the PC to check atm, but it's a Core 2 duo E**** that runs on 3.66 Ghz (native freq is 3.2 Ghz if I'm not mistaken)

I plan on buying an i5 k model when I upgrade. I'm leaning towards waiting until I can get all the parts.
