Hey Guys,

Over the past few weeks I have built a new system. Primary use is for gaming and video editing, as well as the usual PC stuff. I have had issues finding the video card that I wanted or choosing between single or SLI. After going through several video cards including (EVGA GTX 760, Gigabyte GTX 770 OC, and now EVGA GTX 780 ti) I invested big money in the GPU because I wanted the very best for may rig.

But now i'm running into and issue. I installed the GTX 780 ti last night, and its making a noise that I haven't heard from any of the other cards I had installed. First I thought the noise was coming from my PSU, I pulled the 750W I had installed thinking I was maxing it out, and put in a Thermaltake 850W. After hearing the same noise, I now realize its coming from my brand new EVGA GTX 780 ti GPU.

Whats the noise?
- It ONLY happens when the GPU starts a game or I run 3D Mark
- It doesnt matter what game, or how I adjust the graphics settings
- I am running the newest NVIDIA DRIVERS, and all old drivers were removed correctly before installation
- The noise seems to effect the games performance
Example: I fire up Crysis 3 (Running MAXED out) The noise is constant, but if the game studders (on screen) you can hear the GPU noise change or lessen, and then go right back to what it was doing as the FPS recovers.
- Games seem to run at a typical FPS for my rig (Except the odd studdering in Crysis)

I feel like my GTX 770 handled the game better overall. It deffienitly didnt have as high FPS, but the FPS was more consistent (No major 2-3 FPS drops, then recovery)

BF4 is a different store. This card runs the game at 110 FPS AVG Maxed on Ultra, but still makes the noise I am describing. I can hear it over my case fans with the case sealed.

Do I need to RMA this thing? Is this a normal issue? Again, I dont think its coil whine. It sound like a hand held tazzer at maybe 10% load. Thats the best way I can describe it. ITS NOT THE FANS, its definitely an electrical sound. There are also no cord hitting against my fans. The GPU starts making this noise IMMEDIATELY as a enter a benchmarking app or a game.

SPECS:
Intel i5-4760K @ 4GHz w/ Aftermarket Air Cool
MSI Z87-G45 Gaming Motherboard
16GB Corsair Vengeance RAM
120GB Kinsgston SSD
1TB WD HDD
EVGA GTX 780 ti
6 120mm Case Fans

Hello Joel.
The buzzing you hear from your VGA when starting a game or is under load is a electric noise from the chips charging and discharging in very fast hz . Some brands allow you to RMA the card and some say is normal . I used to have this problem on my 4890 card and I kept running for 4 years until I replaced it . You can let know EVGA about it a might say to RMA it . That's my 2C opinion.
Have fun.

I appreciate the feedback... Does it hinder performance at all? I paid over $700 for this card and want it to do all it can do. My plan is to SLI later on. What you recommend sending this back for a replacement. I just dont want to go through all the trouble and end up with the same issue after being without my computer for 2 weeks. How frequent is this for high end GPU's?

Can anyone provide further information on this. Has anyone else experienced this? If I RMA and wait 10 days whats the chances my new card will do the exact same thing? It doesnt seem to effect performance (yet), but I have never had another GPU do this. Is this something that a high performance GPU does? funny my GTX 770 didnt do this, but who know?
