I am building a budget gaming rig. I was told by a friend that an i7 is far superior to an i5 for gaming. I would be using a i5 4430 @ 3.0 ghz. I feel that it would be sufficient for most everything I would need. I don't plan to overclock or do complex 3D rendering. Would the processor that I have selected bottleneck a Radeon R9 270x? What is your advise for a processor for gaming?
Any help is appreciated.

Core i7 is better than Core i5. Go for Core i7, it should last you a long time and you don't need to upgrade the cpu for that time being.

No, go with the i5 and save the money. For gaming i7 is not necessary.

Here at Tom's we recommend the i5-4670k a lot for gaming builds. If you can afford that one go for it. If not, the i5-4430 will do OK too. The i7-4770k is better than any i5, for example, but you don't need to go that far for a gaming rig.
