Upgrading to Intel! Need peace of mind! (parts, money, things!)

Right so...

Basically, I'm moving from an FX6300 @ 4.1ghz to an i5 4670k, and what I really need right now is peace of mind.

Now, I remember back in Battlefield 3 days, before I got a 7950 (I had a 560ti 448), that Battlefield ran a lot better, constant 60, no problems. However, I thought that my massively OC'd 7950 beast would murder it, and it clearly hasn't, so I'm a little bit confused: there's juicy drops down to the 40s, and I ain't got time for that.

I figured though that it must be (over a long time) my cpu not keeping up with the gpu. So that's why I'm jumping ship to the intel side.

I did manage to get my cpu to a stable 4.5ghz for quite a few months as well, and that made NO difference. So maybe, just maybe, it may be because I have an amd gpu. I'm just mega confused as to what the problem is.

What I really want is some people to be honest. So many people bullshit on forums about framerates and hardware it's unbelievable. So, if anyone has my system, or the system I'm upgrading to, I wouldn't mind some peace of mind before I make the jump.

I know it's a great cpu (the i5), I just want to know if it's worth it, OR if the problem isn't my cpu (maybe go for a fx8350/different gpu). I know it'll make the biggest difference in the world on dayz, so yeah.

Finally, I don't want any of that 'cpu's dont make a differnce to gaming, battlefield 4 isnt gpu intensiveeeesae lolololl' BECAUSE AT 64 PLAYERS IM PRETTY SURE IT IS.

SO I hope that makes sense and people get what I'm on about. 250 quid is a lot of money and I want to make sure it's going into the right place.

Josh

My system:

CPU: fx6300
GPU: Club 3D 7950 (1100/1550)
RAM: G-skills 8gb 1600mhz
PSU: BeQuiet 630w
Mobo: Gigabyte ga-990fxa-ud3

well, what settings are you playing at? I'm on a 6950 with the shader unlock and I manage to stay above 40fps most of the time on high settings with ssao and 2xAA. Multiplayer with 64 definitely will hog your cpu, so that COULD be the issue.

edit: what cpu cooler are you using? You should be able to hit 4.5 with that cpu.

Yeah i have the 4670k and in my opinion its the best CPU for gaming for the money. Im not saying its the best because obviously the i7 is better but there is a massive price jump. The i5 will run any card out there without bottleneck and personally i am very happy with mine. im sure you are going to receive many other happy users with the same answer. Out of curiosity what MOBO are you planning on getting?

Yeah mate that's quite a lot lower than what I have. Mine's something like everything high except textures (ultra) then either 2x MSAA or 4x dependant on map/players. I can get 60, its just when it gets hectic.
I have an evo 212+. I got 4.5 ghz easy with a stable oc. Just didn't like it, didn't feel any difference in games.

I'll be getting a Gigabyte Z87-HD3 Motherboard. Seems to be good with overclocking. What gpu do you have? what's your gaming like?

try it with textures on high instead of ultra see if that helps. bumping the clock speed to 4.5 should have made a difference. do you have c1e/c6/cool n quiet/turbo core etc disabled? You definitely can't go wrong with the 4670k, I just think you should be getting better results then you are. Even when hectic I haven't seen below 35/34 at worst.

I have the GTX 770 and get 60-70 fps on dayz except obviously in towns but never drops below 30. For the price the Gigabyte is a good board to get.

I've tried everything. This is what I'm confused about. Even putting everything on low doesnt make a difference. You guys keep chatting I'm gonna disable all those cool and quiet stuff and get back to you in a bit...

I get framerate dips with a 3570k and hd7950 gpu on BF4 multiplayer even on small deathmatch servers, apparently you need windows 8.1 to get the best fps and no dips, but even some people with win8 on forums have said fps dips for them,so who knows I guess. The game is just buggy as hell, they have several lawsuits I've read at their steps....I have win 7 64bit and really don't feel like upgrading >_>

have you overclocked anything? Might need to go for an nvidia gpu instead... although i'dlove an i5 ARGH WHY CANT I BE A CONSOLE PEASANT

nah I haven't overclocked anything, I could, but, I've seen plenty of vids on youtube of people playing fine on ultra 1080p with i3 haswell with 40-50ish fps surprisingly, same with the 6300 and 8320/8350. I think the problem lies with windows 7, but tbh I really don't care for windows 8.

Right, well I just played on Siege Of Shanghai and it performed like shite. Was sometimes averaging 30fps. What my pc HATES is smoke and smog and all that.
Now, thinking about this, I used to have that problem with my old athlon on fallout. When I upgraded it loved though smoke effectss. So yes, it's deffo the cpu.
I ran prime for 10 minutes and had no problems. Same voltages as before, got it at 4.5ghz, around 40degrees underload, turned all those things off that Dacquesta said, and still performed like tripe. I just think that my gpu is too much for my cpu and that's simply it.

What you guys think??

Right, so after another test with 64 players I think it's evident that the cpu is at fault here. I even took the OC off the GPU and found it made me gain fps. Although, I still couldn't maintain a constant 60fps.
I think the the main thing I found from the last play-through was the almost constant 100% gpu usage, spiking everything two seconds. Now I think that's a big indicator.
I'm pretty sure on going for the 4670k now guys, but wouldn't mind hearing from a few of ya on my thoughts.

Have you been checking your temps, because its weird that when you remove the overclock that it would perform better.

Yeah my temps are normal. Maybe my oc wasn't stable I dunno. I think I just need something future proof.
And cooling wise I'm 55 degrees GPU and 40 degrees CPU so its tasty on that side.

Also I tried unparking my cores and I got crap loads of bsod, so I stopped that. Problem is its just so much goddamn effort! I just want an easy, beasty cpu damn it Haha

Right, so it has helped. However, a constant 60fps is still non-existent.
Look at this screencap I took (http://postimg.org/image/gh4egdqz5/), look at my gpu usage. I think that pretty much speaks YOU NEED A BETTER CPU. When monitoring my cpu that wasn't even maxing out.
But yeah, the parking thing will come useful in the future, but it's not making too much difference now. Still thanks a lot for all your help (even if we're not quite done yet! Still think I may have made my mind...)
