I have a primary SSD and a secondary HDD. a while back my SSD died and i had it replaced. when i next installed windows and all that, the HDD would show up under 'My Computer' but it didn't contain anything (it should contain stuff) i figured i must have forgotten a driver so i installed the 'ASMedia SATA3 Driver' for my ASRock Z87 Extreme6. after doing this i restarted as i was prompted, and then it wouldn't boot. it went to the windows screen and stuff but the logo just stuck there and nothing happened. the Startup repair just says that there is a problem caused by the driver.

What os? windows 7 or 8.

May I say that you have two Sata chip sets on the board and both the AS media and the Intel Sata options must be enabled in the bios. Or the system will lock up.
After installing the As media driver in windows.
If the drive was fitted to the As media Sata ports. Then you should see the hd information after that. But the As media Sata must be enabled and set to the right sata mode and the right sata port.

If the HD is a Sata 2 device, and connected to a Sata 3 port it is also why the drive does not show prior data or information you knew was on there.

At worst case to get windows to load normally.

Power the system on, keep tapping F8 key, select safe mode.
Let windows load.

Control panel. add remove software, driver.
If you cannot see it control panel, system security, device manager.

Click on storage controllers, look for the as media and uninstall.

Restart and load windows in normal mode.
