First of all, i'm not sure if this is the correct section to put this in.

I built my first custom computer and instead of getting windows, I went the free route and got Ubuntu because well, it's free! I was looking up stuff of how to keep my system running at the best speeds as I could and I was told to install the drivers that came with the motherboard. When I try to run it, it doesn't work. Am I going to have to buy Windows?

More about : install motherboard driver ubuntu

You were informed wrongly. You don't install Windows drivers on a Linux system. Are you having a problem with the computer?

Buy Windows if you want to run Windows (and then you will need the drivers) but if you are sticking with Linux then just forget the driver disk.

How can I update the drivers for my computer? Sound, graphics, etc.

The drivers are built in to the Linux kernel (actually they are separate modules that are linked in as needed) and will be updated as part of normal Ubuntu updates. As long as everything is working don't worry about it. Some hardware does need additional drivers and the process then depends upon the particular item of hardware; but if everything is working then you need no additional drivers.
