Hey guys,

My brother has a pretty terrible computer right now. Its a dual core 2.4ghz 2gb ram, no gpu. It runs minecraft at the lowest settings at 10-15 fps.

Well he played on my computer (i7 4.4ghz, 770 gtx, 16gb ram) and he is bummed that his computer sucks.

He needs a new computer. We can reuse the case, optical drive, and hard drive (and maybe windows?) We want the best preformance (at least 30fps at the best graphics), for the lowest amount of money. I prefer Intel and Nvidia. It would be for minecraft, and maybe some other games similar to it, and probably at some point, microsoft word and powerpoint.

So I've picked out a few parts that I think would work well for minecraft
i3-3240 3.4 dual core,

ASRock Z75 Pro3 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard

G.Skill 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 650 Ti 1GB Video Card

I'll probably need to get a new PSU, since the one included is quite old, and is only 350w
Any advice appreciated

Why don't you just get an APU like the A6-5400k and a cheapish motherboard? There's no need to be get an i3 and 650ti for Minecraft. The A6 runs it at 60 FPS max. settings which is fine. Besides, the i3-3240 isn't as good as the FX-6300.

Well I'd like to somewhat future proof the thing. Hes young, so his money has to last for a while until he maybe gets a paperoute or something. My parents believe that we should pay for our stuff so they don't give him money.

Edit: the reason I am not just getting him a GPU is that his mobo only accepts the oldest pci version (forgot what it was called) and all the gpus for it are horrible

Ok in that case the build that you posted should be good. Although I would change out the i3 and put in an fx-6300. As for the motherboard, you don't need anything special. The one I have listed below should be fine at a super cheap cost.

If he wants to up the performance in the future he could upgrade to an Athlon X4 and graphics card. Right now the best use of your money would be to get an A6 or A8 without a graphics card.

No, for Minecraft the i3 will be much faster. Minecraft only uses 1-2 cores.
