I want to play minecraft at at least 60 fps at 1280 x 1024 screen resolution. The power supply is 115 watts. I have a PCI-e slot. What would give me good performance without crashes and freezes? I also want to budget 30$, but I can go higher if I need to.

Solution
I had a similar issue, had a dell dimension 9100, I was able to run a 9800 GT plug and play no problem, and played minecraft well....that was 1280 x 1024 around 30-50 fps..That card my be best budget bet for around 50 used one ebay.

If it's a Dimension 9100 tower with the stock PSU, it has 375 watts with 30A on the 12 volt rails and it has a single PCIe 6-pin power connector. You can run any $30 video card there is with your PSU but a $30 video card isn't going to get you much.

good day mach, are you still using that 375 watts PSU of dell dimension 9100 for the 9800 gt GPU? if you are, how was it? Is there any problems are you encountering with your dimension right now?

thank you in advance...

Yes still rocking the dell dimension 9100, recently upgraded the CPU to a Pentium D 950 and also upgraded the GPU from the PNY 9800 GT EE to a EVGA 750 TI SC 2 GB - Seriously best bang for the buck and runs beyond superb on the stock PSU rated at 375 W. Minecraft plays no problems now what so ever. With the 9800 GT EE, if it got to hot, the screen would start to started....If you got the money get a 750 TI series card, super power efficient with immense power, and can easily be transferred to a newer desktop if you get one. Glad I could help and youre welcome!

Mach90 I need some advise. I have a dell dimension 9100, 2.8ghz Pentium D, running windows 8. I have a 750w PSU. I bought a EVGA super clocked 780TI with ACX cooling and put it inside the machine. Everything fit and all looked normal. Here begins the sad part. I downloaded the driver from the EVGA website. Driver did a compatibility check and said not compatible with graphics hardware. This did not make sense. I called EVGA, they say computer is too old. Any advise, as to what in your opinion is the absolute best NVidia card this motherboard can support? Also which graphic driver are you running.

Thanks,

Ibby

sorry for the super late reply, havent been on the website in a while, but no issues with the 9800 gt, and after the maxwell cards came out, I was able to run with a 750 ti sc, and I wouldnt be shocked if a gtx 960 worked either due to low wattage requirements....but ofcourse they are both more money. Can get used 750 ti on ebay for around 50 and a gtx 960 around 100-120. Cheers.
