Is there still a problem with SSD RAID volumes not having TRIM support? Or is that a thing of the past now?

With newer Intel boards trim can be passed in raid. I am not 100% sure about the AMD side.

Drives do have built in background garbage collection, so unless you are benching the drive all day, it should be able to take care of it self as well.

As of the Intel 7 series chipsets, there is full support for TRIM in RAID. I am not sure on AMD either.

If you do it though you will have the controller in RAID the HDD will be in RAID but it wont be in the RAID itself.

To be honest though, SSDs in RAID 0 are pointless. Other than getting the extra space you wont notice the performance increase for the most part.
